This weekend was a momentous one for us: Rebecca moved into her own room!
“Am I to stay here?”
And Hayden got a big boy bed!
He actually asked for quiet time on his first day with the big boy bed—and he stayed in bed the whole time! (Last night, however, was the first time he fell out of bed 🙁 .)
But I think the people who are most excited are me and Ryan—after four and a half months, we finally have our room to ourselves! All of our toiletries have been migrating to the guest bathroom so that we didn’t wake Rebecca as we got ready for bed—and once we were ready, actually going in our room sometimes required nerves of steel and holding our breath.
Strange how having free reign of one’s own room can feel so . . . freeing!

Looks great! The pink is very familiar.
Yikes! We are just about to move Michaela into her room when my husband is on vacation. Any tips for a smooth transition?
Yeah how did she do on her own? Do you guys check on her a bunch? Kevan requested a picture of the flooring. The paint looks amazing! So cute! Miss you guys!
@Drea—I think Rebecca’s still getting used to her new bed, but other than that, it hasn’t been a big deal for either of them, oddly enough. Hayden took to his crib really well, too, when we moved him, but they were both pretty young.
I check on Rebecca more than I checked on Hayden, mostly because opening her door is quieter! I don’t check on them too much, though.
Good luck!
@Brooke—The floor is GORGEOUS!! I have a picture, but the floor’s not swept in it. I’ll post it soon.
The pink nursery is adorable! I love the striped shelves. Did you paint those yourself? Very impressed.
When we moved Weston into his big boy room with his big boy bed a couple months before Davin was born he was SO excited and asked to go to bed and take naps for the first few days. The excitement eventually wore off, but we never had a fight about going to bed. Glad the transition went smoothly for you too.
PS-You can get a toddler bedrail for pretty cheap at Walmart or Babies R Us if the falling out of bed becomes a regular problem.
What a darling room!!!
Not being a mom, I might be sharing some common knowledge without knowing it, but did you know they have toddler beds? One of my friends got her son a crib that converted to a “big boy bed” – but with a partial barrier to keep the kid from rolling out of bed. I was so amazed! I never knew such a thing existed!
@Shannon—thanks!
@Christa—Hayden’s new bed is a toddler-sized bed, but I think I know what you’re talking about. His bed is a hand-me-down, though, so I can’t be too choosy!
We’ll see if he makes a habit of falling out.
