Six of one, half a dozen of the other VI

Since last week I covered motherly chores that I like and don’t like (and since we’re in serious need of more Hayden pictures here!), here’s six chores that Hayden likes.

Six chores Hayden hates
Diapers. We have something in common!
Getting dressed. He does like it, however, when I let him walk around naked (diaper-clad) in the middle of getting dressed. Lately he’s started standing up, giving me a sly smile, waving bye bye and heading for the door.
Post-meal face washing. ‘Nuff said.
Vacuuming. Actually, he really likes me to hold him while I vacuum, but he can’t decide whether he’s thrilled or terrified.
Following Mom around while she does chores. What about me, Mom? Can I help? Can I have your duster/vacuum/broom/hands/attention/every waking moment?
Errands, although he does like his new big boy car seat:

Watering the lawn. See how he’s standing in the sprinkler path and has water all over him?
Laundry. Sorry, no pictures of him pulling the clean clothes out of the basket or getting caught in his hamper. Okay, okay, scroll down to the third picture in this post to see Hayden trapped in hamper.

My house should probably be a lot cleaner than it is with a little boy so obsessed with instruments of torture tidiness.

A bit of a slump

Hayden 13 months 097.jpgIt’s my birthday. I want to go back to bed. I’m tired. Hayden’s not up yet.

I keep promising myself that for my birthday, I’ll go to bed early. We shall see.

It’s funny that just a couple days ago, I was thinking “This is a great age” (about Hayden, not me), and now I’m wishing he’d hurry up and grow up (again). It seems like every stage has a “hurry up and grow up” aspect to it.

The most frustrating part of this phase is the screaming/whining. Hayden still doesn’t speak and doesn’t gesture in a particularly helpful manner most of the time. He gets frustrated when I don’t know what he wants (or just won’t let him have it) and I get frustrated with the insatiable whining, wailing and screaming. I’m a little scared to get him out of bed this morning.

But sleep has dimmed the memory of yesterday and his general grumpiness and as he calls out to me from his crib in his “man voice,” he sounds happy. Maybe today will be better. It had better be. It’s my birthday, darn it!

On the plus side, I’m excited to be 24. I like even numbers.

I think I’ll go to the gym and read something uplifting. Sigh.

Ah, young love

I was going to take a picture of the 3-4″ of snow that fell last night, but it all melted, so instead I’ll be playing catchup on pictures (I’ll tell you which one the title applies to, but I’m sure you’ll be able to guess).

Two fisted drinker. His grandma introduced him to root beer, if you’ll recall.

That’s one really weird deformity.

Tie monster!

(Cleaned out Ryan’s closet. This writhing mass now resides on the floor… on my side of the bed. Go figure.)

Helping with chores. I think we had a picture of me mopping when I was about 2, so this runs in the family.

Here it is, young love. Whiskers needs it.

Haydie actually did that all by himself today. He was whining and trying to pick the kitty up, so I had him sit down and placed Whiskers on his lap. Spontaneous hugs. Sweet boy.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

We got our St. Patrick’s Day package just in time:

And here you go, Jasmine. Hayden breaks it down, just for you. (Taken with our still camera.)

The Week in Pictures

Probably not as moving or artistic as the mainstream media feature of the same name, but oh well. Enough talk, let’s get to the pix!

Ballerina boy

Wouldja feed me already, ma? (Taken for the outfit—
yeah, it’s been warm enough for shorts here!)

Hayden is quite good at feeding himself. Sometimes he uses his
hands for the oatmeal-yogurt-applesauce, but still pretty good.

Hayden has lots of great “toys.” For some reason,
we keep them in the kitchen cabinets.

Another toy. His grandma instilled a love of root beer in him at an early age.

As always, the best toy: the box it came in.
(He’s listening to the echo of his voice.)

It’s also useful. It’s the only way I can get him to sit still through lunch
(without resorting to the high chair).

Cookin’ up trouble
(Again, we keep his “toys” in the kitchen cabinets)

First thing when Ryan gets home today, Hayden unzips his pocket and
gets a dry erase marker out. Here he’s fishing for more “toys.”

Video… ah, video… I have less than 5 min left on the first digital “tape,” then we’ll edit and upload. I hope.
